Bridger Blaithe, a 24-year old male has been recently divorced to his partner of 8 years. Him and his wife, Amanda Adler, were match made by an AI from a company focused on creating relationships, aiAI Industries. After 8 years of being together, however, their relationship waned and eventually led to them dissolving it. The story starts with Bridger, in a depressive state, believing that the relationship he had with Amanda was false and that aiAi was to blame. That is when a knock his door is heard, opportunity presenting itself from the very same company that gave him an opportunity all those years ago.
