Alex Gartlan has abilities her mother tries to keep secret: abilities to manipulate what other people see, hear, and – when she's in the zone – think. 

When someone in her class reveals powers of their own and starts exerting them in frightening ways, Alex discovers that her family secret might not be so secret after all. Even weirder, this stranger might know what happened the night her brother disappeared: something that, up until now, only Alex's mother knows.

It's a race for Alex to determine the identity of her superpowered peer before she is herself exposed. But once she starts falling for her dangerous classmate, can she protect her own mind?
